The situation analysis on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights of Female Sex Workers in Nepal

March 2023.

The situation analysis on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) of Female Sex Workers (FSWs) in Nepal is a crucial research topic for several reasons. First, FSWs are a marginalized and vulnerable population who often face stigma, discrimination and violence, making it difficult for them to access SRH services. Second, Nepal has a high prevalence of HIV & AIDS, and female sex workers are at a particularly high risk of contracting and transmitting HIV & AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs). Third, Nepal has made significant strides in advancing SRH rights, but there is still a gap in the provision of services to marginalized populations like Female sex workers.

Therefore, a situation analysis of the SRHR of Female sex workers in Nepal can help identify the barriers and challenges they face in accessing SRHR services, including HIV testing and treatment, family planning, and gender-based violence prevention and response. This analysis can provide important insights into the policies, laws, and practices that support or hinder the realization of female sex workers’ SRHR, and inform the development of evidence-based interventions to improve its access.

Furthermore, the research can help to raise awareness about the importance of SRHR of female sex workers and contribute to reducing stigma and discrimination against this population. The findings of the research can also be used to advocate for policy changes and programmatic interventions to improve the health and well-being of FSWs and support their human rights. Ultimately, a situation analysis on SRHR of female sex workers in Nepal can contribute to advancing the country's overall efforts to promote sexual and reproductive health and rights, reduce HIV & AIDS transmission, and promote gender equality and social justice.
